John Koegel
John B. Koegel is Attorney, Founder and Partner, The Koegel Group LLP, New York, New York. Since 1982, John has specialised strictly in the legal representation of visual artists, artist estates, galleries, private dealers, advisors, collectors, non-profit organisations, and businesses directed at visual art. Prior to establishing his art law practice, he was Secretary and General Counsel at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City where he was responsible for all of the legal affairs of the institution including affiliate operations.
Prior to his position at the Museum, he was counsel to the National Commission for the Review of Antitrust Laws and Procedures in Washington D.C. Before that, after admission to the New York Bar in 1973, he was engaged in the general practice of law with concentration in trial and appellate litigation at the venerable law firm of Rogers & Wells.
John serves as a Board member on a considerable number of artist-endowed foundations and on several art-related non-profit organisations. He also serves as pro bono legal counsel to several art related trade associations.
